Akwaaba Freedom School - Summer 2023

Akwaaba Freedom School is a 6-week summer reading enrichment program that focuses on students using their agency to make a difference in themselves, their families, communities, country, and world with hope, education, and action. Freedom Schools is offered at no cost to families in communities where enrichment programs are scarce or cost prohibitive. Freedom Schools offer a fun, high-quality reading curriculum, extracurricular activities, weekly field trips, as well as meals and snacks. Children were exposed to the Children Defense Fund’s (CDF) Integrated Reading Curriculum for approximately three hours per day. In addition to reading, they experienced math and science instruction, physical activities, arts, and other enrichment activities like money management. We also extended the day by providing aftercare services.
