ABOUT THE STUDENT PROGRAM
The TeensWork Alachua Summer Youth Employment program (TWA) provides eligible students with paid internships and job opportunities that prepare them to succeed in employment. Students work with local businesses that offer on the job training and mentorship. In addition to paid internships, students also receive training in employability, job readiness, financial literacy, resume building and essential skills, such as communication and emotional intelligence. Students also receive the support and mentorship of a TWA Job Coach. Job coaches assist students through every step of the internship process in order to make the experience as impactful as possible. Students are paid $14/hour, and work up to 17 hours/week for 6 weeks.
YOUTH MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS TO BE ELIGIBLE:
- 7th- 11th grade
- 14-18 years old
- Enrolled in an Alachua County school. This can be a high school, charter school, private, virtual school, or GED equivalent.
- Resides in Alachua County
- Has only completed one or less previous TWA sessions
IN ADDITION TO EMPLOYMENT, STUDENTS WILL…
- Develop social intelligence
- Learn work norms and culture
- Understand career pathways and educational opportunities
- Build professional networks
- Gain financial literacy and management skills
STUDENTS WHO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM:
- Will receive a certificate of completion.
- May participate in the program again.
- Are encouraged to ask for letters of recommendation from the TWA team.
- May ask their supervisors to be a reference for future opportunities.
- May be able to stay at their job post-program.
- Participate in the closing reception and alumni events

ABOUT THE WORKSITE PROGRAM
TeensWork Alachua (TWA) employs eligible Alachua County students through partnerships with local businesses. In addition to employment, students receive employability, job readiness, financial literacy, and essential skills training. Throughout their internship, students are assigned to a job coach, who acts as a liaison between the student and partnering business. Students can work up to up to 17 hours of work per week, earning $14 per hour.
